The Problem

• We create (or receive) digital images
• We extract technical metadata from those images
• We create descriptive metadata about the images
  
• We want to pull the whole thing together into a METS wrapper
• We don't want to have to edit the XML by hand

The Goal

We want to be able to visually pull together the technical metadata, descriptive metadata, images, etc. into a METS record (the structural metadata).

This is a pretty large problem so we tackled a simple example of it for our hackfest project.  Additional functionality could be added using our start.

So, what did we do? We started with a visual editor, which Todd will explain.  We created an XML backend based on work Peter has done, which he will explain.  Then I'll wrap it up with how the METS is built in the final stage.  

The Solution

• UI: Scriptaculous - does the drag-n-drop
• Back end: Cocoon - generates XML directory listing
